A Topiary Tea Party!

A Topiary Tea Party!

Topiaries have a whimsical story book feel and are beautiful ornamentals for outdoor or indoor décor. They can be used to create an enchanting atmosphere for a Tea Party!

Imagine what a lovely theme this would be for that special event, such as a Bridal Shower Tea, a Special Birthday, a Summer Time Garden Tea Party - to name a few.

Decorating

Use Topiaries of course! Start the with two topiaries, one on each side of the entry way. If they are large enough, hang tiny tea cups and tea spoons from them with satin ribbons!

For the table center piece: Use two or more medium sized topiaries lined up down the center. If you are making the topiaries, use teapots for the topiary pots.

Making sure they are not too tall, so guests may converse.

Use a linen table cloth and napkins and your fine china to set the tea table.

For a Bridal Shower Topiary Tea Party: Wrap tiny twinkle lights around the topiaries.

Then drape fine netting over the entire topiary tree and tie with satin ribbons in white or the wedding colors!

Use a silver tea set and silver napkin rings for an added touch for this Bridal Shower Tea!

Have the Bridal Shower Cake made up in the shape of a Topiary. Or have a Cup-cake Shower Cake, with the cup cakes displayed on a “Cup Cake Tree”.

Have a customary “Ribbon Pulling”! Insert tiny silver charms attached to satin ribbons with the streamers hanging down. Have each member of the Bridal Party pull out one ribbon to see which charm they get. These are the Brides’ gifts to her bridal party! Tip: It may also be a good idea if a second gift of a silver chain, a silver charm holder or a bracelet also be given, so she may wear the gift!

Some of the more common charms used and their meanings are:

  • A Three-leaf Clover which means “Good luck will find you in your future"
  • A Wishing Well: “A wish will be granted”
  • A Money Bag: “A life of financial security”
  • A Heart: “You will find true love”
  • Wedding Bells: “Next to be married”
  • A Cross: “A life full of peace”
  • A Wedding Cake: “A happy marriage and family”
  • An Anchor: “Adventure awaits”

  • Menu

    • Watercress and Egg Tea Sandwiches
    • Creamy Radish Tea Sandwiches
    • Apple Cheddar Nut Scones
    • Crab Triangles
    • Fresh Fruit Salad
    • Chocolate Mint Parfait Squares
    • Victorian Tea Cookies

    Favors

Put place-cards in mini topiaries at each place setting.

Or place Sun-catchers shaped like topiaries at each setting!

    Games

      Name That Herb!

      You'll Need:

      • 12 Paper Cups
      • 12 Different Fresh Herbs
      • Aluminum Foil
      • Paper and Pens
      • Magic Marker

      How to Play:

      • 1 - Put a different herb into each of the 12 paper cups. Number each cup 1 through 12. Cover each with aluminum foil and poke a couple small holes in the top.
      • 2 - Hand out pieces of paper and pens. Ask guests to number their papers 1 to 12.
      • 3 - Pass around the cups of Herbs. Have the guests sniff the holes in the cup, guess what herb is in that cup and write it down next to the corresponding number on their paper.
      • 4 - The guest with the most correct guesses wins!
      • Tip: Give packets of Herb seeds put in a terracotta pot tied with netting and ribbon as a gift!

      Croquet:

Play a few games of Croquet!

This is a perfect game to go with the theme.

Croquet was introduced in England in the early 1850’s. The game was an acceptable pastime for Victorian women as it required skill, but not much strength.

It was one of their primary recreational and social activities. However, it was also enjoyed by both sexes.
