A Tea Basket!

baskets of roses

A Tea Basket is a perfect way to say you care. It’s sure to cheer!

Here is a sample of what you can put in your Tea Basket.

You’ll need:

  • A large wicker basket (or any basket will do)
  • A cloth napkin or a pretty tea-towel
  • 2 tea cups and saucers
  • A tea pot
  • A small box of a variety of tea bags
  • 2 cloth napkins or several pretty party napkins
  • tea bisques or cookies (store-bought or homemade)
  • A thermos of hot water (if you intent to have tea with your recipient and there will be no hot water available).

Place the tea-towel or cloth napkin in the bottom of the basket. Next carefully place the other items in, as to make a pretty arrangement.

You may carry the thermos separate if you intend to bring it back home.

It would be a nice gesture to also place a card of cheer or a small devotional book in the basket too.

I am sure that this will be long remembered. It is a special way to show you care and to lend a listening ear over a cup of tea.

OR Give a Little Tea Cup Gift

  • a tea cup and saucer
  • a couple individually wrapped tea bags
  • a teaspoon
  • a pretty napkin, cloth or paper
  • a crystallized sugar wand
  • a little note card
  • 2- 1/2" x 12" pieces of ribbon

Place the napkin in the tea cup. Note: Your may want to use pretty paper napkins for this because a cloth napkin may be too big. Or you could use a pretty handkerchief instead.

Next place the tea bags, the teaspoon, and the sugar wand in the cup. Tie the little note card to the handle.

Then to finish it off take the 2 pieces of ribbon, place them on the table in a + position. Place the saucer and teacup in the center. Bring the ribbons up and tie into bows to secure everything together.

You could place a miniature silk flower on the handle for embellishment if you'd like.

When to give a Tea Basket?

Bring a Tea Basket to a friend, a new neighbor, a new mother, someone in the hospital or nursing home, for a Birthday gift, or an “I’ll Miss You” gift… The list goes on.

You can stay and enjoy the tea party together or leave it for them to enjoy at their convenience.

Like with a new neighbor, for example. It may not be a good time for visitors due to all the unpacking and setting things up. I should know, I’ve moved many times! I had a neighbor bring me a tea basket when I moved into a new neighborhood. It had fresh muffins! I accepted it and she realized that I was in a bit of a mess at that time so she left it with me. What a pleasant respit it provided for my husband and I later that evening! We sat enjoying this special treat on our new porch in my new whicker swing! I then felt at ease to ask her over for tea later after I had set things up a bit. At least I could find my table and my tea pot! I think we had store bought cookies though. It was wonderful and her kindness will always be remembered.

When I was at the hospital with my son, when he was in intensive care, I had a co-worker bring me a tea basket. And if I remember right she also brought some other food. I will NEVER forget the kindness she showed, for just taking the time to be there with a listening ear and bringing me tea. (My son was at the Children’s Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia and we lived in Williamsburg, which was over an hour away.)

These are just a few examples of when to give a tea basket. I'm sure you'll think of many more.
