Will your frog turn into a Prince? Only a REAL princess can find out with proper princess lessons and a magical kiss of course!! This is a wonderful time to teach your little Princess the proper way to sit, stand, wave, drink tea, greet, etc. And all the other regal teachings she must learn that comes with her “proper upbringing”! Have fun while teaching common courtesies and etiquette.
Decorating Ideas
Lay the tea table out as though you are in the palace!
Use a linen (or cotton)table cloth and napkins with gold napkin rings adorned with jewels.
Use gold or silver charger plates under the royal china.
Use “real” dishes, not paper or plastic. Just ask yourself-“Would The Queen Approve?” If the girls are old enough and responsible enough, you may consider using your good china.
A silver tea set would be lovely, but not necessary.
Sprinkle jewels around on the table.
For the center piece use a candle obra. If you do not have one, just place candles of various heights in the center of a floral ring.
Use candle holders or a platter so the wax does not melt all over the linen.
Tip: I have seen many “old world” looking candle holders in thrift stores. Check your local thrift stores for a gold mine of all kinds of unusual things!

Favors
Have tiaras placed in the center of the dessert plates, then after their “Royal Training” they may be properly crowned!
You can also have a scepter at each place setting if you choose not to do these for a craft.
However if “The Queen Mother” (that’s You) would like to head-up the Official Crowning, it would only be proper to be the one with the scepter.
Games
Proper Princess Lessons!
You can make a game out of teaching “Proper Princess Lessons”
It would be fun to go over these before starting the Tea Party and see just how much everyone remembers the rules. You can present a crown to everyone after the lessons for participating and becoming a “Proper Little Princess”!
Use the list below and pick out the lessons you want to teach.
After the lessons you can have all the girls line up. While playing royal music in the background, present each girl a crown while stating their ‘New Title’ by saying “I now present Princess Melissa”!!
Start out by saying something like this:
"All Real Princesses receive their “Royal Training” from The Queen Mother. And when you complete your royal training you will be presented with a crown to signify that you are a Real Princess!! So today we will begin by learning to wave…"
OR
“We are all going to learn the ‘Royal Teachings’ of a Real Princess. And if everyone listens and learns well, you will be presented with a royal crown and be a Princess for A Day!…
Waving:
To properly wave like a real Princess, hold your right hand up with fingers together and gently wave back and forth.
Standing:
Stand up straight with shoulders back and hands to your side or folded in front.
Walking:
While walking, stand straight, head held up, do not swing arms, and walk gently across the room.
Sitting:
Sit down gently, back straight, head held up, legs down with feet sitting flat on the floor or crossed at the ankles- be sure to tell them that a true princess never crosses her legs, arms down to your side and hands folded on the lap.
Conversation:
Have a good time with your friends. Keeping in mind not to get too loud and no screaming.
Greetings:
When your hostess greets you at the door, be sure to thank her for inviting you.
Wearing Gloves:
When greeting another, remove the glove from the right hand, place the removed glove in your left hand and shake hands skin to skin. Remove your gloves before sitting down to dine.
Being Seated:
The host will tell you where to sit, or you ask.
Starting The Tea Party:
The hostess will start by pouring the tea. She will ask you if you would like lemon, sugar, or milk.
Wait For Your Hostess:
Your hostess will instruct you to start eating OR wait for her to sit down before starting.
Napkins:
Unfold your napkin and place it on your lap.
The Proper Way To Drink Your Tea:
When Seated At A Table: raise the tea cup to drink and place it back onto the saucer in between sips.
When At A Buffet Tea: Hold the tea saucer with your left hand and the tea cup in your right hand, while they rest on your napkin on your lap. Bring the cup and saucer up mid-way, then raise the tea cup to your lips to sip.
What To Do With Your Pinkie Finger?
Is it “Pinkies Up!”- on the contrary, curve all fingers in toward the tea cup, including your pinkie finger. Hold the tea cup by the handle using a bent index finger and the thumb to grasp it.
When Stirring Your Tea: gently stir without tapping the sides of the tea cup. Remove the tea spoon and quietly place it on the saucer behind the cup.
Passing Food:
Food trays or bowls are passed to the right.
Pass It On:
If you know you do not like it, pass on it. Do not overload your plate.
When Offered Scones, Jam, and Cream:
Place a spoon of jam and a spoon of cream on your plate with the scone.
When Eating Scones:
Eat only small bite-sized pieces at a time. Break of a portion of the scone and then place the jam and cream on.
Say “Thank You”:
When food is passed to you and you do not want it, simply say Thank You and pass it on.
Pass The Cookies Please!:
When you would like more of something and it is not right in front of you, say: “Pass the cookies please." It is rude to reach across the table or in front of someone.
Keep The Table Clean:
Keep the table and table cloth as clean as possible. Things that are not eaten should be put on your plate- do not put bones etc on the table.
Used Utensils:
Once you have used your utensils, rest them on the side of your plate, as it is impolite to put them back on the table.
Do Not:Spit anything out. If you must discard of something (like seeds, skin, bones), quietly put it in a paper napkin and then go on.
Touch Your hair, teeth, nose etc. while at the table.
Talk With food in your mouth!
Burp This is rude.
Slurp Eat and drink quietly.
If You Need To Be Excused:
Say, "Excuse me for a moment, please” if you need to leave the table to go to the bathroom, etc.

At The End Of The Tea Party:
The Hostess will place her napkin to the Left of her plate, everyone is to follow suit by also placing their napkin to the left of their plates.
Before Leaving Table:
Wait for all to be finished before leaving the table.
BEFORE STARTING THE GAMES BELOW--HAVE YOUR TEA PARTY!
Before the games begin you can say:
“Now that you are all 'Real Princesses' you will be able to find your Prince!"
You can then start by playing the
frog games listed below.
Crossing The Brook!
The princess has taken a stroll along the palace grounds when she comes upon a brook. What shall she do? Walk across--Of Course!
Take gray construction paper and cut them out in shapes of a stone. You’ll need 2 per guest. Take a black marker or crayon and trace and shade in you stones to make them look more realistic, if you wish.
To Play as teams: Divide guests into 2 teams. Give each guest 2 “stones”. Have them place the first “stone” in front of them and step upon it. Next, pick up the “stone” behind them and lay it in front, so they can step upon it--and so on. The first team to cross the brook and sit down in a straight line- wins! Remember not to step off the stones - you’ll get your feet wet!
OR:
To Play Individually (if you have a small group): Lay small plastic frogs along “in the brook” and make it a rule that they must pick up all the frogs along the way. Being careful not to step off the stone (we mustn’t get our feet wet!) and carry them to safety to the other side of the brook, with out dropping one, while all the while switching stones too!
The prize(s) goes to the one(s) that makes it across with all the frogs in hand.
Tip: This version would be better for older children, as they may have more coordination. We don’t want to frustrate and make the little ones sad.
Toad Stool Gathering!
Before starting this game- spread plastic toad stools(mushrooms) and one plastic frog (“The Prince”) in the center of the Royal Garden (the room).
While walking through the Royal Gardens each princess must gather up all the toad stools while looking for her Prince Charming! What’s the catch? Well as many times as the Princess has strolled through the Royal Gardens she can do it with her eyes closed! And so she shall!
Blindfold the Princess, give her a basket. Twirl her around one time and send her on her way. She has 3 minutes to gather up all the toad stools and if she finds the frog, He turns into A Prince!
The winner is the one who is able to gather up all the toad stools. You can give a bonus prize if she also finds “Prince Charming”, (the frog). For example-A Ken Doll.
Crafts
Sceptors: Each girl can make her own scepter!
Use wooden dials. Wrap them in ribbon and hot glue the end. Cut streamers, about 5 or 6 to hang down. Place them at the top end and hot glue. Hot glue a star or a ball at the top.
Warning: an adult should use the hot glue gun!
tip:All of these notions can be found at the local dollar or craft store.
Music
Music is always a nice touch for a tea party. Like when you go to a Tea Room or a Fine Resturant, you can hear a quiet melody playing in the back ground. I suggest soothing tunes during The Tea Party. Playing a more lively tune would be appropriate when you are doing crafts or during game time.
Riddles
Here is a list of Frog Riddles. This is just a fun game--one to break the ice!
You can print each one on a small piece of paper and roll it like a scroll, tying it with a ribbon. Place a scroll by each plate.
Or place them in a bowl and have each girl pick a riddle and ask everyone there if they can guess the right answer! This is just a fun game--one to break the ice!
What's green, green, green, green, green? A frog rolling down a hill.
What happens if a frog and toad collide? They get tongue tied.
Guess the game preferred by big frogs? Croaket!
Why do frogs love reading Sherlock Holmes? They really enjoy a good croak and dagger.

Where do baby frogs learn to swim? In a tadpool.
What's a frog's favorite sweet? Lollyhops!
What's a frog's favorite game? Hopscotch

What does a bankrupt frog say? Baroke, baroke, baroke
Why are frogs normally so happy? Because they eat whatever bugs them.
A Movie
You can watch Princess Diaries or give the movie as a prize for winning a game!
It fits into the theme because the young lady in the movie goes through training to become a Princess!
It's about a young girl that has a visit from her Grandmother, the Queen of Gnovia. Only to find out that she is the next air to the throne and to become the princess of Gnovia! If she should choose this title she must undergo her Royal Training. It is a very cute movie--I love it!!
