An American Girl's Tea Party

Is your daughter a fan of the "An American Girl" book series and dolls? If so, this is a great theme for a tea party.

I recently took my granddaughter, Madison, to An American Girl’s book club at Empire books where they were celebrating the new movie “Kit Kittredge - An American Girl”. It was so much fun. They had a reading, did crafts and played games. This month they are featuring Samantha, where I will be catering a Victorian Tea Party for the occasion. My daughter and I decided to go in Victorian costume. It will be so much fun.

The beloved series of “An American Girl” is outrageously popular among young girls. Through the historical characters, young girls can dare to imagine what their life would be like if they lived in the era of their favorite character and doll. There are 14 characters and dolls; Kaya (1764), Felicity & Elizabeth (1774), Josefina (1824), Kirsten (1854), Addy (1864), Samantha & Nellie (1904), Kit & Ruthie (1934), Molly & Emily (1944), and Julie & Ivy (1974).

Invite each guest and their doll to a tea party. Tell them to come dressed as her favorite doll/character.

Idea for an activity:

Do a reading from one of your daughter’s favorite books.

A game idea:

Have your daughter write a list of characters and things form the book. Then make a word scramble out of them. For example: ‘colonial’ would be ‘laloconi’ or ‘pioneer’ would be ‘repeoin’, all scrambled. Give the girls an allotted time to unscramble the words. The one with the most correct wins!

As a party favor, send each girl home with a small porcelain tea party set so they can enjoy playing tea party with their dolls at home. You can find these at a dollar or a toy store.
